Introduction
During vertical well drilling, to prevent deviations from exceeding the acceptable limits, a large pendulum drill assembly is utilized in combination with a single-shot inclinometer deployed prior to drilling. However, this method has significant lag and cannot monitor deviations in real time. While MWD systems can provide real-time inclination monitoring, they tend to be costly. In response to these operational challenges, LI-MWD developed.
