Drill pipe has two parts,pipe body and joint.It is divided into common drill pipe and special drill pipe according to machinery behavior;also divided into common flat shoulder(known as straight shoulder drill pipe),oblique shoulder drill pipe and heavy weight drill pipe and so on.

Technique features

Drill depth of the drill pipe depends on its minimum tensile strength while the torsional strength means capacity resisting torque failure.Torsional strength is calculated according to 57.7 percent of minimum yield strength of the pipe body commonly and the body size is nominal size.

Collapse strength is a main actor for drill pipe when testing,and in high pressure gas wells internal pressure strength should be taken into account when testing and fracturing,also internal pressure ,the pipe bearing,is sum of pump pressure and hydrostatic string.If the bottom of string is open,the internal and external liquid pressure of string in different depth is equal.

Drill pipe, is hollow, thin-walled, steel or aluminium alloy piping that is used on drilling rigs. It is hollow to allow drilling fluid to be pumped down the hole through the bit and back up the annulus. It comes in a variety of sizes, strengths, and wall thicknesses, but is typically 27 to 32 feet in length (Range 2). Longer lengths, up to 45 feet, exist (Range 3).
